Katie + Tim | Top of the Tower Wedding
During our first phone conversation, Katie told me that her motto is "Decisiveness!". She had already decided to book me as her wedding photographer, depending on my availability, and the rest of her vendors had been assembled and booked. I absolutely loved Katie's confidence over the phone and her great tastes and then the genuine care she expressed regarding her assembled team really resonated with me. After our initial call, I was thoroughly excited to document this event! Katie & Tim's relationship broke all of Katie's dating rules. Tim is younger, he lived in a different city (Katie was in New York and Tim was in Chicago) and they met through work! Tim was actually in Philadelphia for work when they first met and Philly is where the couple would eventually have their first date, an epic 7 hour date at Time. It wasn't long before Tim relocated to Manhattan, where the couple now lives. Although Katie & Tim had talked about a future together, Tim's proposal came as a total surprise. Katie didn't know that Tim had asked her mother for her blessing in marrying her daughter prior to a getaway trip to Philly. During that trip, Tim officially proposed to Katie in Rittenhouse Park in August 2013. Wedding planning came soon after and Philly seemed like an obvious choice for the event. Plans were solidified once Katie found Top of the Tower and it proved to be the perfect venue allowing the city skyline that they love to become a part of the decor.
From the start, Katie expressed that she and Tim wanted their event to be more of a celebration vs. a traditional wedding. The event would be small and intimate and would represent the melding of their families. Beginning with gorgeous views at Top of the Tower to the table names featuring cities where the couple had traveled, many of the couples' choices would be focused on giving their family and friends a glimpse into their relationship. Two of my favorite details were the couple's choice to eliminate a formal ceremony aisle in order to represent the blending of their families and the monogram which they themed throughout the stationary suite and decor in honor of Katie's mom who collectively refers to the couple as "KT".
On the wedding day, we joined Katie early to document her amazing stylists apply their finishing touches to the wedding party (made up of family members). I was touched by how much fun everyone was having and that included the stylists; the environment was one of warmth and respect. It was inspiring to walk into this! After getting ready, I walked with Katie to Logan Circle where she saw her groom for the first time. This was also the first time that I had met Tim and he just beamed when he saw Katie! All smiles! My favorite part was catching Katie's mother and sister watching the whole interaction from the hotel window above. It was Katie's suggestion that we catch an Uber to Philadelphia City Hall to continue photography which then continued during our walk back down the Parkway to Top of the Tower for their ceremony.
The ceremony was perfect. The cocktails were fun. Katie & Tim stepped outside with us to catch the sunset and we danced the night away with the amazing deejay DJ babyblu. I had an amazing time working, documenting and dancing with Katie & Tim. Enjoy!
